I'm Mahmoud, an Embedded Systems Engineer and MSc student in IoT & Smart Systems at FH Technikum Wien. I build connected systems that combine electronics and embedded software.

My background spans engineering, research, and teaching, with projects in embedded systems, IoT, sensing, and edge AI.

Before moving to Vienna, I was a Lecturer at the University of Pécs, teaching PCB Design, Measurement Technology, and Microcomputers, plus introductory electrical engineering and digital systems courses.

Taught courses in embedded systems hardware and software co-design, communication engineering protocols, and measurement technology to undergraduate electrical engineering students, delivering over 100 lectures to 102 students within 2 academic years. Guided students through hands-on microcontroller-based projects covering the project development cycle from defining requirements to schematic and layout design. Alongside teaching, contributed as a researcher within the Parameterized Comfort in Physical Spaces research group.

Integrated and tested PV, inverter, and battery systems for an international student engineering competition. Configured PLC-based smart home automation and worked on the electrical design of the competition house.

BLE-to-Cloud IoT Pipeline

ESP32/DHT22 sensor data moves over BLE GATT to a Python container on a Raspberry Pi 5, then through Mosquitto MQTT (TLS and mTLS), Node-RED, InfluxDB, and Grafana. All services run in Podman containers and are auto-provisioned.

TinyML Workstation Assistant

On-device machine learning inference running directly on microcontrollers. The pipeline trains a model in Python, exports a quantized version, and deploys it in C on the MCU to detect workstation activity in real time.

Edge AI-Based Autonomous Indoor Inspection Station

Three-milestone indoor inspection system running entirely on a Raspberry Pi 5 with a Hailo-8L NPU and 2D LiDAR. Fuses YOLOv6n object detection with LiDAR-based event triggering to avoid always-on inference, then adds on-device face recognition, a live dashboard, and Telegram alerts. All sensing, detection, and alerting run locally with no cloud dependency.
